"Fiber Connections" Recent work by Dawn Wilson At Booklover's Gourmet

    May 1-31, 2008

    Fiber Connections
Recent Work by Dawn Wilson on display at Booklovers' Gourmet, 55 East Main Street, Webster. Meet the artist Sunday, May 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.
    Hours: Tuesday-Friday 10-7 p.m., Saturday 10-5 p.m., Sunday 10-4 p.m. Call 508-949-6232 for more information.

Artist's statement: We all have connections, whether it’s to people, nature or our history. Through the medium of fiber I am exploring what connections I have to my life. Most of the materials I use are recycled or repurposed and recreated into a visual representation of that moment in time. The stories that come out of those materials speak to me internally.

The paper quilt series stems from my love of paper and the salvaging process that goes into collecting it. Today’s society has become such a throw away society that most people don’t even think about what they are throwing away. Working in the print industry I am amazed at how much “unusable” paper is tossed. Being socially conscious it has become my duty to “rescue” these gems out of the recycle bin and find a use for them. The paper quilt series is my accumulation of this collecting process and through the creative process giving the materials a new voice.

A Discovery - From Sid Solomon

    Dear friends,

New at the A.O.R. Gallery at Thayer Memorial Library

Gregory Dolnikowski will be exhibiting his acrylic paintings at the gallery at the library from February 29, 2008 to April 30, 2008 during normal operating hours.
Greg's artwork sings with energy and color. He paints wonderful, breath-taking sunsets that have an abstract quality to them. He also paints beautiful abstracts in an energetic style.

Greg is an artist and a scientist. Does that make him a renaissance man? Well, maybe not, but it does keep him busy. Several universities taught him to be a scientist but his mother taught him how to paint. The love of painting that his mother instilled in him is evident in his work. Greg also accepts commissioned work.
Don't miss this show. It is worth seeing and is free to the public. The show can be seen during usual library operating hours. For more information contact: Sheryll Collins curator/owner Art On Rotation Gallery 978-549-5822.

Expressionist paintings by Reynald Poisson at Booklovers Gourmet

March Art Exhibit - Expressionist paintings by Haitian-born artist Reynald Poisson will be on display March 1-30 at Booklovers' Gourmet, 55 East Main Street, Webster, MA. A reception to meet the artist will take place on Sunday, March 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday 10-7, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 10-4. Closed Monday. Call 508-949-6232 for more information.
To contact the artist directly call 508-731-0339 or email reynaldpoisson@charter.net

    About the artist:
"It has been part of my nature to create and I have been fascinated by the creative process as far back as I can remember. When I was four years old and living in Haiti, I observed, in the back yard of my home, a small patch of supple clay that was different in color and texture from the rest of the earth. I sat down and worked with the clay, forming sculptures of automobiles, airplanes and boats, which became symbols of my family's eventual immigration to the United States. Since 1995 I have been devoting a full time schedule to my art work, and have acquired an eclectic vision. In the beginning I worked mostly in pure abstraction, until the turn of the new millennium, when I began to incorporate various figures from life into my paintings. My work became more personalized and narrative in its form. Since 2003 I have included the pop art style in my repertoire. One of my important goals is to express myself with my art in a way that addresses humanity's social problems, therefore helping us to integrate our past and to shape our future, to help us to understand what it means to be human."
